General Information About the Anaconda (Eunectes murinus)
This is the world's largest snake. Well heaviest anyway. It is said that a 20 foot Anaconda will weigh more than a 30 foot Reticulated Python. So the debate goes on as to which is the biggest. The Anaconda is the heaviest and the Reticulated Python is the longest, but this is just my opinion. The Anaconda has a large head and thick neck. It eyes and nostils are located on top of the head so that when hunting most of its head and the entire body can stay sumerged beneath the water. This snake is extremely muscular and is not poisonous, but has sharp teeth and powerful jaws that is isn't afraid to use on any distracted handler. Anacondas prefer to be in the water, but they do like to spend time on land in shallow caves by the water's edge, or in riverbank tree roots to bask in the sun.
